This is based on my experience

SKIN COLOR

I think both countries prefer light skin. In the Philippines, there are many commercials for soaps, lotions, and supplements that can make your skin get lighter. They say that if your skin is lighter it looks clean and better. Skin color also has been a controversial topic in the Philippines ever since.

Here's an image that I found on the internet. It is an advertisement from GlutaMAX which is the biggest skin whitening company in the Philippines. You can see two girls with different skin tones facing each other. But the left girl looks confused and the right girl is smiling. The text that says 'Unfair 'di ba?' means 'Unfair, right?' and the 'Wag magalit, mag-GlutaMAX!' means 'Don't get frustrated, use GlutaMAX!'. I was shocked that this kind of advertisement existed and I don't think it's normal anymore.

However, some Filipinos are changing their perspective on their ideal skin tone. And many of them are becoming open-minded about skin tones, like the dark skin doesn’t necessarily make you “ugly”. Which I think it’s a good thing because I can see that people are slowly being aware of the toxic Filipino beauty standard.

Whether we be morena, mestiza, chinita, and no matter what religion we follow, what tribe we’re in like the Aetas, what living situation we’re in, what level of education we’ve achieved in life, at the end of the day, we’re all Filipinos, and we should spread our support and love with one another as a society. ❤️❤️❤️🇵🇭🙌🏽

Let's talk about Korea. In Korea, people also prefer fair skin even most people have them already. By seeing those westerners doing the ‘Tanning’, I don’t think that the lighter skin means you look more attractive. Well, I think it’s because some people appear to look healthy when they have color. It’s weird because Asian tends to get whiter, on the other hand, Western people wants to get darker. Some famous celebrities also tan like Ariana Grande, Kylie Jenner, Kim K, Christina Aguilera, Tara Reid and more!

To be frank, I think we just have that one specific color that suits us the most(because we all have a skin tone we think that we look better with it). What color it is, if it makes you more confident then just go for it! Or if you learn to love yourself by the way you look, Of course, it would be much better. After all, this is just my opinion. Again, What color it is, we are not allowed to discriminate against others by their color.

EYES

Double eyelid is everything when it comes to the Korean beauty industry. Most of them have monolid or hooded eyelids but they prefer having double eyelids.

It is weird because they care too much about their eyelids. The thing is that double eyelid makes the person look more feminine(as women), which makes you attractive. It also makes your eyes rounder which they considered to be "pretty. I can say that the eyelid surgery is very common in here. I had few classmates who took the eyelid surgery in 9th grade. And me having natural eyelid, I often get a compliment from it. They say that my eyes look pretty and it is something that cannot make from any plastic surgery(lol).

my eyes ^^

So If you have double eyelids, the chances are that you'll get a compliment. It would be weird at first but you'll get used to it. I asked my friends why do they most likely prefer double eyelids? They said that it is easy to apply eye shadows when you have them. On the other hand, I don’t think Filipinos are obsessed with thinking about their eyelids as much as Koreans do. Although some of my Filipino friends said that they want monolids because it looks unique and cute so they envy Koreans.

Here's an interesting part, In Korea, we have this double eyelid tape or glue.

People stick the tiny tape on their eyes or use the glue one to make a new shape on their eyes.

Out of my curiosity, I also have tried this before, however, It didn’t worked on my eyelids since I have them already. You can also stick these when your eyes are swollen, it helps the eyelid to reform in its shape. Nonetheless, these are just the things that I have noticed from both countries. And always remember that beauty doesn't define how you look, but it's on the inside, your personality.
