In this generation, almost everyone has a social account and it has been easy for us to get connected from people all around the world. The technology is growing fast as well as the users of social media every year. Sure, it is useful and fun. Still, somehow it has been affecting not just our society, but also our mental health. I’ve been using social media for 8years from now. When I made my first Facebook account, I used to play games like Pet Society, Tetris, and Happy pets. Back in those times, the smartphone was not well-developed and it was high-priced. So people were not busy looking at their phones. But now we can’t deny that almost everyone has a tiny gadget. Which is easy to carry-on, not like the computer you used to log in for Facebook 10 years ago. We can easily see the difference between the present and the past. Since I have experience of using Facebook for a long time, let me tell you some of the facts that I felt.

ADDICTION AND BEING UNPRODUCTIVE

Swiping through the timeline is one of my addictions. It is also a risky thing to do when you just woke up in the morning. Despite the fact that there is no actual reason to see what’s going on from other people’s lives-- yet, we keep doing this over and over and over again. Yes, we could see some photos of our friends, family members or some entertaining content. Hate to admit it, but it is actually a waste of time. Those actions also don’t help you in some ways. I mean.. you could do so much more than that instead of spending your time scrolling through your phone. Oh, I am not here to act like I’m the polite teen ever and telling you to should stop using them. I still use my Facebook and Instagram. The most important thing is that if you could only manage your time, I think it’s totally fine for you to use them. Just don’t make them the reason why you got scolded by your teacher in school because you didn’t do your homework. According to the studies, social media are actually made to become addictive and I have been trying hard to get myself up to motivate and do the things I planned to do. (Just like you are reading right now, I am typing this at the moment for my blog site). Because when I do something that I enjoy, I get so productive and my laziness will go away. I suggest that you should do your hobbies like playing the guitar, painting or go outside by refreshing yourself.

It is not a bad thing to have quality time by yourself. Self-care is important too. I used to go to the café by myself and reset my mind by just reflect my past and meditate for my own. You should also try to go somewhere and relax sometimes!

CYBERBULLYING AND PRIVACY

Sometimes words can be harmful than actions.

This has been a big problem until now, commenting on a person’s posts, spreading false and fake rumors can end up someone into having a physical and mental sickness. And if it gets worse, it can actually bring someone to death. There is a real story of a teenager who ended up taking her life due to her cyberbullying.

Since anyone can create a fake account nowadays, it has become easier for anyone to bully or be a victim on the Internet. There are also millions of people around the social community who are posting inappropriate things or doing stuff that can against the community guideline, which is why it is hard to trace or control those problems. I also have experienced receiving any kind of harsh messages and comments about me. There are some tips I can teach you to keep away from those kinds of negative influences.

First, you should avoid making your account into the public. Then you can change your security on your setting sections. This is an essential part if you want privacy. Accept friend requests only to those people whom you know personally or you trust. Do not post something about your relatives or family and your private information on your public figure. Remember, social media is not a real-life! So do not share if it’s not completely appropriate or necessary. It would be much better for your concern to secure your account.

Thank you for visiting my site! I hope you guys learned something about them and stay hydrated everyone. :)
